The Butterfly Week 2019 will go back to the mountains, in Abruzzo!

Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi

The Butterffly Week is a research initiative that involves researchers and citizens. Every year a different destination is choosen, and for a week several researchers, coming from all around the world, will study the butterfly fauna in order to rediscover its biodiversity and enable a better conservation.

This year during the Butterfly Week we will focus on the species Parnassius mnemosyne, a protected species threatened by climate change.
During the week we will try to evaluate the consistency of its populations and the dispersal events across various clearings of the adults through Mark-Release-Recapture methods (MRR). The characteristics of the host plants will also be evaluated in order to take future actions for the restoration and maintenance of its habitat.
